Greater Diversity = Greater Impact is the theme of this year’s event. Content is organized around three tracks:

Track 1: Skills to Lead at Every Level: Explore frameworks and tactics to achieve your goals in dynamic work environments and transform common business challenges into career-building opportunities.

Track 2: Organizational Development for Greater Inclusion: Gain knowledge about the research, theory, and practice of developing leaders and promoting diverse leadership for greater performance.

Track 3: Sector Transformation: Discover cross-company and sector-wide initiatives you can support or gain inspiration from to develop an initiative that fills a gap.


Look forward to a unique mix of inspiring speakers. You’ll engage with women and men who are industry leaders in the global development sector, emerging leaders who are sparking affinity groups and other changes, and people named “leadership gurus” by Harvard Business School and Forbes. The nature of the content makes it easy to connect with other people at a very authentic level which makes this one of the best networking events you’ll attend in 2019.

Join this breakfast and presentation to listen to Michael Amilcar, CEO of Cook Ross, as she provides tools for creating inclusive environments and identifying unconscious bias in the workplace. This session is a follow-up to the WILD Network’s Women of Color Discussion Forum, and all attendees to the 2019 WILD Forum are encouraged to join.

Moving around the globe every few years is challenging, staying top of mind while moving creates an entirely new set of opportunities. In this session, Ms. Dalton will share best practices for how to stay top of mind when you are out of sight – to make sure you don’t miss out on opportunities as well as momentum. She will reframe how to get the most out of working internationally and yet stay connected with those who need to know about you back at headquarters, or even with key partners. Attendees will understand the challenges and opportunities to maintaining and building your brand abroad and how to develop a clear path of steps to implement to change perceptions and be top of mind. Many young professionals think they don’t have credibility, so how can they build a personal brand? Ms. Dalton debunks this myth and provides actionable steps young leaders can take to proactively manage their brand and begin to build their reputation roadmap. In this session, we'll examine how you can be clear about goals/objectives and also determine the most effective behavior given a particular context to reach those particular goals.  We'll explore together different factors to consider as you navigate different relationships, personalities, competency levels, and possibly competing priorities/outcomes. 

Got Influence? (or How to Influence People and Get Big Things Done): Laine Joelson Cohen, Director, Citi Learning and Deborah Borg, Chief Human Resources & Communications Officer, Bunge Limited

Have you ever had to get work done through people who don’t report to you?  Have you struggled to figure out how to get others behind your goals? Join this session to 1) Learn how to define influence and assess your ability to influence; 2) Identify the core skills involved in influence; and 3) Develop an influence strategy for the people you work with most. The session leaders will bring real experience and stories to illustrate how influence, when done right, achieves goals and strengthens relationships. Individual participants are encouraged to think ahead of time of a specific scenario where they wish to have more influence to use as an example in this interactive session.

Mindfulness for Leaders: Everyday Practices to Lead a Happier, Healthier Life: Samantha Attard, Founder, Happy Healthy Human & Anjali Shahani, Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment, The World Bank

Whether addressed from a scientific standpoint, or a spiritual one, mindfulness practices can improve leadership skills. Some benefits of mindfulness practices include reduction of anxiety, increased empathy, as well as time and stress management.

Organizational Leadership in Preventing and Responding to all Forms of Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse: Andrea Bertone, PhD, Director of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Hub, FHI 360 and Blessed Mulenga Silavwe, Senior Program Director, FHI 360 Zambia.

In the wake of the #MeToo movement and high profile harassment and abuse cases, the international development and humanitarian response communities have struggled to develop systems and procedures preventing and responding to harassment, abuse, sexual exploitation, human trafficking and other forms of violence, also known as safeguarding, against staff, project participants, and beneficiaries. Organizational leadership commitment and buy in is crucial to ensuring that these systems and procedures are created with a survivor-centered focus, and also have the goal of creating equitable and inclusive work environments. This workshop will walk participants through the process of building organizational leadership and buy in for strong policies, processes and procedures for safeguarding.

Developing a Road-map for Creating a Diversity and Inclusion Strategy that is Right for Your Organization: * Francesca Molinaro, Director, Corporate Diversity and Inclusion, Chemonics International

Whether your company is just starting to think about implementing workplace Diversity & Inclusion programs or whether you’ve been working on doing so and want to take your program to the next level, this session will provide learning and useful practices related to recruiting and supporting diverse talent and building inclusive cultures.

Male Allies and the Power of Inclusive Mentorship: W. Brad Johnson, PhD, Professor, Johns Hopkins University, and David Smith, PhD, Associate Professor, United States Naval War College

The business case for deliberate and fearless cross-gender collaboration in the workplace. Intentional and reciprocal cross-gender mentoring and sponsoring are good for both men and women. Using social science evidence, organizational best practices, and a good dose of humor, this workshop will provide the “how to” for men and women, who want to be more intentional and gender-savvy mentors to develop more diverse, inclusive and effective organizations.

Participants will gain confidence in their negotiation style through facilitated discussion and role-play and learn how to identify and articulate their personal value, to develop an arsenal of persuasive responses and other negotiation strategies, to conduct objective market research to benchmark a target salary and benefits, and about the wage gap, including its long-term consequences on their careers.
